Speed & Feed Chart for
CNC Turning — Complete India Guide
The most comprehensive speed and feed reference for CNC turning in India. Covers Steel, Alloy Steel, Aluminium, SS304, SS316, Brass, Bronze, Cast Iron, Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 — with practical tips for each material.
Every broken tool, scrapped part, and ruined surface finish in a CNC shop starts with the wrong cutting speed. Too fast and the insert burns out in minutes. Too slow and you are wasting machine time and money every single cycle. The right cutting speed is the foundation of profitable CNC machining.
This guide gives you the complete speed and feed reference for all 10 materials in MachIQ — verified data you can use directly on your shop floor.
Find your material. Choose Rough or Finish. Use the Vc value to calculate RPM using N = (Vc × 1000) ÷ (Ï€ × D). Or open MachIQ — select the material and it does all the calculation for you in 2 seconds.
| Operation | Vc m/min | Feed mm/rev | DOC mm | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rough Turning | 180–260 | 0.2–0.4 | 2.0–4.0 | GC4325 insert, flood coolant |
| Finish Turning | 260–350 | 0.05–0.15 | 0.3–1.0 | Sharp nose 0.4mm for Ra 0.8 |
| End Milling | 150–200 | 0.1–0.2 | 1.0–3.0 | 4-flute carbide, 40–50% radial |
| Drilling | 80–120 | 0.15–0.3 | Full dia | TiN coated HSS or carbide |
| Operation | Vc m/min | Feed mm/rev | DOC mm | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rough Turning | 140–200 | 0.2–0.35 | 1.5–3.0 | Reduce Vc for hardened material |
| Finish Turning | 200–260 | 0.05–0.12 | 0.3–0.8 | CVD coated inserts preferred |
| End Milling | 100–160 | 0.08–0.18 | 0.8–2.5 | Climb milling recommended |
| Drilling | 60–100 | 0.1–0.25 | Full dia | Peck drilling for deep holes |
| Operation | Vc m/min | Feed mm/rev | DOC mm | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rough Turning | 400–600 | 0.2–0.4 | 2.0–5.0 | Uncoated or diamond-coated insert |
| Finish Turning | 600–800 | 0.05–0.15 | 0.3–1.0 | PCD insert for mirror finish |
| End Milling | 300–500 | 0.1–0.3 | 3.0–8.0 | 3-flute carbide, high helix |
| Drilling | 200–350 | 0.2–0.5 | Full dia | High helix drill, clear chips often |
| Operation | Vc m/min | Feed mm/rev | DOC mm | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rough Turning | 80–140 | 0.3–0.5 | 2.0–5.0 | CBN or ceramic inserts for hard CI |
| Finish Turning | 140–200 | 0.1–0.2 | 0.5–1.5 | Dry machining preferred |
| End Milling | 80–120 | 0.1–0.25 | 1.5–4.0 | Dry or MQL — avoid flood coolant |
| Material | Operation | Vc m/min | Feed mm/rev | Key Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SS 304 | Rough Turn | 100–150 | 0.1–0.25 | Sharp insert, high feed |
| SS 304 | Finish Turn | 150–200 | 0.05–0.12 | No dwell — causes work hardening |
| SS 316 | Rough Turn | 80–130 | 0.1–0.2 | More sticky than 304 — lower Vc |
| SS 316 | Finish Turn | 120–170 | 0.05–0.1 | PVD coated inserts mandatory |
Never stop the tool mid-cut in stainless steel. The material work-hardens instantly on dwell, making the next cut nearly impossible and destroying the insert. Always maintain continuous feed.
| Material | Operation | Vc m/min | Feed mm/rev | DOC mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ti-6Al-4V | Rough Turn | 40–60 | 0.1–0.2 | 0.5–1.5 |
| Ti-6Al-4V | Finish Turn | 55–80 | 0.05–0.1 | 0.2–0.5 |
| Inconel 718 | Rough Turn | 25–40 | 0.05–0.15 | 0.3–1.0 |
| Inconel 718 | Finish Turn | 35–50 | 0.03–0.08 | 0.1–0.4 |
Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 generate intense heat at the cutting edge. Use only flood coolant at maximum pressure. CBN or PCD inserts for Inconel. Change inserts frequently — do not push insert life on exotic alloys.
All 19 speed and feed entries are built into MachIQ's SF Reference screen. Select your material, scroll through the operations, and see the recommended Vc, feed and DOC values instantly — no internet needed, no data book required.
After checking the reference data, tap any operation heading to jump directly to that calculator with the material already selected. MachIQ pre-fills the recommended Vc — you just enter your diameter and length.
MachIQ includes all 19 speed and feed entries for 10 materials. Free to download. Works completely offline.
